CFOs should put their heads in the cloud

And save some money

As I perform my day job, as a management consultant with a bias towards IT, and the alignment of IT with business, I continue to be amazed at how CFOs are ignoring cloud computing.

Cloud computing offers businesses phenomenal cost savings. There are downsides and headaches that would make a CIO resist. But for a CFO cloud computing is an extremely tempting proposition.

But there seems to be total non-interest. It is not lack of awareness. Most CFOs have heard of cloud computing even though very few really grasp what it means operationally. I think the success of salesforce.com has been a big factor here. But even though CFOs have heard of cloud computing and have heard that it can radically alter a business’ IT costs, they just don’t seem interested.

I don’t know why.
